The homelab / An evolving build

Infrastructure at home.

A working environment for experimenting with storage, networking, containers, media automation, and secure access. Here's what's running today—and what I'm planning next.

01 / Hardware

TrueNAS server

A dual-socket server handling storage and self-hosted applications while I plan a more efficient replacement.

Compute

Intel S2600CP

Dual Intel Xeon E5-2620 processors (12 cores / 24 threads total), 48 GB RAM, running TrueNAS SCALE 25.04.2.6.

TrueNAS SCALEDual Xeon
Network

UniFi Dream Router 7

My UDR7 handles routing, firewall policies, wireless connectivity, and VLAN segmentation. Wired clients connect directly to the router.

02 / Storage

Two ZFS pools, two jobs.

High-capacity media storage is separated from faster application and personal-file storage.

tank / Media

19.58 TiB usable

Four-wide RAIDZ1 using approximately 8 TB hard drives. Plex media lives here.

7.34 TiB used37.5% utilization
Cloud / Apps & Files

1.3 TiB usable

Four-wide RAIDZ1 using approximately 500 GB SSDs, with one additional spare. Used for applications, containers, and personal files.

115.26 GiB used8.7% utilization

Capacity and utilization are a snapshot from October 2026. RAIDZ1 provides single-drive fault tolerance per data VDEV, not a replacement for backups.

03 / Networking

Segmenting the network.

Current VLANs are configured; network roles are being refined as part of an ongoing segmentation project.

The dedicated server segmentation is still being planned. The diagram and descriptions here reflect intended roles, not completed isolation policies. Firewall rules and access controls will be documented as they're implemented.

04 / Applications

What I self-host.

Most services run through TrueNAS Apps, with qBittorrent and Gluetun deployed manually through Docker.

▣

Media & requests

Plex, Seerr, Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, Bazarr, Tautulli, and FlareSolverr.

MediaAutomation
◎

Photos & utilities

Immich for photo management and Maintainer for application maintenance.

⛨

Networking & access

Cloudflared for publishing Seerr, Tailscale for private remote access, and qBittorrent paired with Gluetun for VPN-routed traffic.

Cloudflare TunnelDocker

NGINX Proxy Manager remains installed but stopped after the migration to Cloudflare Tunnel.

05 / Roadmap

Projects in progress.

The lab is never really finished. These are the next areas I'm working through.

↗

NAS modernization

Move away from the dual-Xeon platform toward a smaller, more power-efficient system with better media transcoding support.

Planned
⌁

Network segmentation

Move wired clients and server workloads to their intended networks, then validate firewall and inter-VLAN access.

In planning
◇

Technical write-ups

Document the Cloudflare Tunnel migration, storage choices, and practical troubleshooting lessons from the lab.

Built to evolve.

This is a snapshot of a living homelab. I'll update the build as hardware, services, and network design change.
